Light my fire...er...yurt

The only place, really, for outlets is around the perimete of a yurtr, and who wants lamp cords running all over the place? The only thing you can do to find a place for lights is to look up…but there is no ceiling to install ceiling fixtures on…right? But, there ARE the rafters. Hmmm…

Rafters are the perfect place to install lighting. My electrical system runs from the electrical panel to all areas of the yurt by running the wiring along the outer edge of the yurt at the point where toe wall meets the rafters, with the wiring held in place by zip-tying it to the perimeter tension cable. From here you can go down the wall to low outlets and wall switches…or up along the rafters to lighting…but what kind of lighting?

Toilet malfunction…How do I make coffee?

I love my coffee. LOTS of coffee. Too much coffee.

Especially first thing in the morning.

Morning coffee takes water, and my toilet flowed and flowed and flowed. It flowed ‘til it had “flowed” dry.

Need MORE evidence of Pacific Yurt quality?

Besides the beauty and livability of my yurt, I found while dealing with the Great Christmas Tree Strike of 2009 (covered in Part 1, here, and part 2, here) that Pacific Yurts are STRONG.

Well, its happened again. I’ll be writing a post soon about the continued assaults my trees seem intent on making on my humble abode, but briefly, there has been yet another tree strike (I’m thinking of taking my chainsaw out and making a meadow out of my wooded acres).

You’ll get the details later, but since many folks are deciding NOW which yurt company to do business with this year, I thought I’d share the following email I sent to Pacific Yurts last week. It’s a direct cut-and-paste, without even formatting correction. It will tell you…yet again…just how strong a Pacific Yurt is.

My son claims to love me. Sometimes I wonder though…

I called my son yesterday. I was trapped in a 5×10 foot section of my living room, a victim of high humidity and slow-drying wood stain. I’ll tell y’all about the Great Floor Finishing Adventure in a few days…when it’s over, I recover, and sanity returns.

No smart cracks about little chance of the whole sanity thing happening soon, OK?

Anyway, being trapped where I was left me few entertainment options while I waited to escape.
